"SO, WHAT KIND OF MUSIC WILL WE BE
PERFORMING?"
The great jazz musician and composer Duke
EIIington, when asked just what constitutes good music, replied, "If it
sounds good, it is good." With such wisdom as our guide we will perform
the widest possible repertoire, including classical music, pop, jazz,
chamber music, solo literature , and maybe even rap. (OK, maybe that's
stretching it.)
HOW WILL WE DO IT?
Through careful preparation of the widest
possible orchestral repertoire, as well as attention to small group
playing (string orchestra, woodwind choir, brass and percussion ensemble,
etc) players will explore strategies for raising their performance
abilities. Many of these skills will prove valuable to ensemble members as
they move on to college and ultimately their chosen careers.
During the season, members of the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestra
and the Pittsburgh Symphony will present "master classes" focused
primarily on performance and audition preparation.
